Pohang Steelers calmed Gwangju FC’s ‘storm’ and rose to second place in the league.
Pohang Steelers won 2-0 against Gwangju FC in the 6th round of the Hana 1 Q K League 1 2023 held at Pohang Steel Yard at 7 pm on the 8th.
With this, Pohang made 14 points (4 wins, 2 draws) 안전놀이터and rose to second place in the league. On the other hand, Gwangju stayed in 5th place (9 points).
The home team, Pohang, took out a 4-2-3-1 formation. Jeka aimed to score in the front line, and Baek Seong-dong, Yoon Jae-woon, and Kim In-seong stood in the second line of attack. Kim Jong-woo and Oberdan protected the back four, and Shim Sang-min, Grant, Ha Chang-rae, Park Seung-wook and goalkeeper Hwang In-jae protected the goal.
The visiting team, Gwangju, faced off with a 4-4-2 formation. Lee Hee-gyun and Heo Yul formed an attacking combination, and Joo Young-jae, Lee Soon-min, Jeong Ho-yeon and Asani formed the midfield. In the 2nd minute of the first half, a cross from Kim In-sung from the right flank was headed by Yoon Jae-woon, but Kim Kyung-min caught it.
Soon after, in the 8th minute, Pohang faced a free kick situation. The ball flowed in front of Oberdan and he hit a mid-range shot, but it was returned to Kim Kyung-min’s arms.
Gwangju took out a replacement card first. In the 21st minute of the first half, Heo Yul and Joo Young-jae were called to the bench, and Sandro and Ha Seung-woon were put in.
Gwangju also threatened Pohang’s goal. After a left corner kick was taken in the 24th minute of the first half, the ball flowed to Lee Sun-min and Lee Soon-min fired a right-footed shot, but the ball did not roll well enough to miss the goal.
Two minutes of extra time were given in the first half, but both teams remained balanced and the half ended 0-0.
Pohang took the lead in the 4th minute of the second half. A cross from the right flank was received by Zecca inside the box, and Ko Young-jun shot it directly and shook the net.
Pohang ran away with one more goal. In the 13th minute of the second half, Jeka, who exchanged the ball with Kim Jong-woo from the left flank, entered the box and passed the ball to Baek Seong-dong, who scored without a mistake.
Pohang tried to score an extra goal. In the 27th minute of the second half, Young-jun Ko shot the ball that Oh-sung had stolen, but Kyung-min Kim knocked it away.
Four minutes of extra time were given in the second half, but Pohang won 2-0 without any additional points.
