The San Diego Padres’ Ha-Sung Kim hit his first multi-homer game in the big leagues. But Darvish Yu was held to his fewest hits in a single game this season.
San Diego lost 4-8 to the Pittsburgh Pirates on 25 April at Petco Park in San Diego,온라인바카라 California, USA. San Diego is fourth in the National League West with a record of 48 wins and 53 losses. Pittsburgh is fifth in the Central with 44 wins and 56 losses.
In this game, Kim had a huge game. He led off the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff home run off Pittsburgh starter Quinn Priest. It was her third leadoff home run of the season. He followed that up in the bottom of the fifth with another arching shot off Priest, his first multi-homer game in the big leagues.
Kim drew a walk in his final at-bat to complete the three-hit game, finishing the day 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored. He finished the game with a .270 OPS and a .810 slugging percentage.
But San Diego couldn’t smile. Their starting pitcher, Darvish, was in trouble. Down 1-0 in the top of the third inning, Darvish gave up a game-tying home run to Zack Swinski with the bases loaded. He then gave up a two-run homer to Carlos Santana with two outs.
The Pittsburgh bats continued to harass Darvish. In the top of the fourth inning, Leover Peguero hit a two-run homer with the bases loaded, and in the top of the fifth, Santana arched another one. Eventually, Darvish came off the mound after five innings. He was charged with seven runs (seven earned) on eight hits (four home runs) in 4 1/3 innings with three walks and three strikeouts to fall to 7-7 on the season. It was the most home runs allowed in a game this season. The previous record was three against the San Francisco Giants on 1 May.
“I didn’t feel good about the spin on the ball,” Darvish said after the game, according to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, “I tried to make adjustments during the game, but I couldn’t get to a point where it was effective enough.”
Darvish signed a six-year, $108 million extension with San Diego before the season. He started the season with a 3.60 ERA in five starts in April, but started to falter in May. He posted a 5.74 ERA in five games in May and a 5.40 ERA in four games in June.
Darvish pitched six innings of one run (one earned) and six scoreless innings in his first two outings of the second half of the season, respectively, before giving up seven runs in this game. His record this season is 18-7 with a 4.80 ERA in 101 1/3 innings, 55 runs (54 earned) in 18 games. San Diego will need Darvish to rebound if they want to keep their fall baseball hopes alive.
