The situation was this. Earlier in the game, St. Louis catcher Wilson Contreras was hit in the head by a swing from Happ.
Happ and Contreras embraced in a heartwarming gesture, but the man on the mound had other ideas. In the next at-bat, he threw two pitches to the body in quick succession, eventually taking the second one to the body.
The umpires deemed his pitches to be retaliatory and immediately ejected him. The secretariat also determined that the punch was intentional and issued a penalty.
Michaelas appealed the penalty. He will not serve the suspension until the appeal process is complete.
St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol was held responsible for Michael’s actions and was suspended for one game and fined. Marmol will serve his punishment in today’s home game against the Cubs.
