Pittsburgh, which had a team-high 15 hits, got home runs from six of the nine batters who started on the day. Zack Swinski went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Bae Ji-Hwan didn’t hit a home run, but he did record his ninth multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The seven home runs in one game is the fourth in Pittsburgh franchise history and the first in nearly 20 years since 2003.

Andrew McCutchen hit a leadoff homer in the first inning, Carlos Santana tied the game in the top of the fourth with a 1-2 pitch, Brian Reynolds hit a two-run triple in the top of the fifth, and Pittsburgh answered with a two-run homer by Swinski and a two-run homer by Key Brian Hayes.

In the top of the sixth, Bae led off with a single. With two outs, Reynolds singled to center field to bring Bae home. In the seventh, Swinski and Tacopetta Marcano each homered. Bae doubled two batters later, but it didn’t lead to a run.

Reynolds completed his 3-for-4 performance with a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 10-6. Bae moved from second base to center field in the bottom of the eighth to help preserve the five-run lead.
