The resurgent Ryu Hyun-jin (36, Toronto Blue Jays) will try to win his fourth straight game at Coors Field, the graveyard of pitchers.
Toronto has named Hyun-jin Ryu as the starting pitcher for the first game of a six-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, 스포츠토토 on Aug. 2 (9:40 a.m. ET). Ryu will take the mound at Coors Field for the first time in four years and one month since Aug. 1, 2019, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. It will be his first time in a Toronto uniform.
At an elevation of 1,600 meters above sea level, Coors Field is known for the fact that balls travel farther with less air resistance. This has earned it the nickname “Pitcher’s Graveyard. Ryu Hyun-jin also struggled at Coors Field. In six career starts at Coors Field, he is 1-4 with a 7.09 ERA. He has allowed eight home runs in 26 and two-thirds innings.
It’s a rough patch for Ryu, who is coming off a personal three-game winning streak that saw him beat the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, and Cleveland Indians.
It’s also a big moment for Toronto. The Jays currently trail the third-place Texas Rangers by 2.5 games in the American League wild-card race. With every game counting, the Jays need to start their six-game road trip with a win.
The need for the “returning ace,” Ryu Hyun-jin, who has been performing well since returning from injury with a slow curveball in the low 100s of kilometers per hour and a precise delivery, is more urgent than ever.
