The LG Twins defeated the Hanwha Eagles in a cold game by Kang-woo and broke their three-game losing streak.

LG won 4-3 in the away game against Hanwha in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League held at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on the 15th. LG, who broke a three-game losing streak with this win, has a season record of 71 wins, 2 draws, and 47 losses. On the other hand, Hanwha suffered two consecutive losses, resulting in 50 wins, 6 draws, and 63 losses.

LG starting lineup: Hong Chang-ki (right fielder) Shin Min-jae (second baseman) Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter) Austin (first baseman) Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop) Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman) Park Dong-won (catcher) Moon Seong-ju (left fielder) Park Hae-min (center fielder) Hanwha starting lineup: Moon Hyun-

bin ( Second baseman) Kim Tae-yeon (designated hitter) Noh Si-hwan (third baseman) Chae Eun-seong (first baseman) Choi In-ho (left fielder) Choi Jae-hoon (catcher) Williams (right fielder) Lee Jin-young (center fielder) Lee Do-yoon (shortstop)

In the top of the second inning, LG, the opponent of Hanwha starter Felix Peña 스포츠토토, scored first. With one out, Oh Ji-hwan reached base on a single to left, and immediately homered on Moon Bo-kyung’s timely double, giving LG a 1-0 lead.

However, Hanwha immediately overturned the score. In the bottom of the second inning, LG starter Kim Yun-sik allowed a walk at the end of a 7-pitch match against leader Choi Jae-hoon, and Nick Williams’ timely double came right away, allowing Choi Jae-hoon to home, tying the score at 1-1. LG requested a video review, but the decision was not overturned.

Next, Williams advanced to third base with Lee Jin-young’s sacrifice bunt, and Hanwha chose to squeeze at Lee Do-yoon’s at-bat, but the ball did not roll quickly due to the lost ground, and pitcher Kim Yun-sik caught the batted ball and threw it home, catching Williams. However, with the runner on first base continuing, Moon Hyun-bin and Kim Tae-yeon hit consecutive doubles, and Lee Do-yoon and Moon Hyun-bin hit home one after the other and succeeded in a 3-1 comeback.

LG also followed suit breathlessly. In the top of the third inning, Park Hae-min, the leadoff baseman, got on base due to an error by the first baseman and stole second and then third base with a stolen base. Hong Chang-gi walks straight and puts runners on 1st and 3rd base without an out. Afterwards, Park Hae-min came home on Shin Min-jae’s sacrifice bunt, and Hong Chang-ki came home on Kim Hyun-soo’s timely hit, tying the score at 3-3.

The balance was broken in the top of the 5th inning. After one out, Shin Min-jae’s batted ball flew wide into the outfield toward center field, and while the defense was not in place, Shin Min-jae ran quickly and landed on third base. Then, with 1 out and 1st and 3rd base created by Kim Hyun-soo’s automatic intentional 4th pitch, Austin Dean’s timely hit to left allowed Shin Min-jae to go home, and LG took the lead again, 4-3, by one point.

Neither team scored any additional points in the sixth inning. In the top of the 6th inning, Peña went down and Joo Hyun-sang came up, Moon Bo-kyung walked, Park Dong-won hit a sacrifice bunt, and Moon Seong-joo walked again with one out and runners on 1st and 2nd bases. However, Park Hae-min struck out, and with the bases loaded and Hong Chang-gi walking against pitcher Kim Beom-soo, Shin Min-jae hit a fly ball to shortstop on the first pitch, and the opportunity was lost. Hanwha’s batting lineup also retired in the bottom of the 6th inning due to a three-way strike by Kim Jin-seong.

While LG continued to lead by one point, the game was stopped due to sudden rain just before the top of the 7th inning. Afterwards, a tarpaulin was laid down and we waited for the rain to subside, but there was no sign of it subsiding. In the end, it was decided that the game could no longer be played, so the game ended as a cold game.

LG starting pitcher Kim Yun-sik became the winning pitcher with 4 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts, and 3 runs in 5 innings, and Kim Jin-seong pitched a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts and no hits. Felix Peña took the brunt of the loss with 6 hits, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts, and 4 runs (3 earned runs) in 5 innings.

Following Peña, Hanwha was followed by Joo Hyun-sang (⅔ innings) and Kim Beom-soo (⅓ innings), and Jang Si-hwan was brought in to block LG’s batting lineup and try to turn things around in the remaining innings, but the continued heavy rain prevented them from getting any more opportunities to attack, which was disappointing. I suffered defeat.

It was LG that experienced a no game due to rain in the game against Gwangju KIA on August 8th, when they were ahead 8-0. Before this day’s game, coach Yeom Kyung-yeop lamented, saying, “We’ve been through all sorts of things,” but on this day, the goddess of victory smiled at LG. LG, who comfortably won by one point thanks to the rain, moves to their home Jamsil to meet SSG Landers.
